EBES of university with core team at EBES and EBES activities.
The principle goal of education is to create men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done; who are creative, inventive and discoverers, who can be critical, can verify and not just accept everything they are offered.” This was the observation of a French Psychologist Jean Piaget (1896-1980).
Concerns about methods and results of education are not new. It is being felt since long that the present system of education is largely producing individuals incapable of thinking for themselves and making appropriate decisions. Technology has added to it by making it possible to access information immediately after publication, much before they find a place in the text book. Every bit of information is available at hand, regardless of its quality, reliability and applicability. It is left entirely on the person accessing it to identify the usable piece and discard the other. Thus, educationists today have a different role to play as guides and students have more skills to learn. Just having good basic knowledge of one’s own subject doesn’t suffice; they also have to acquire skills of effective communication, critical evaluation & application to be able to derive relevant conclusions and apply them in tackling with practical day to day problems. Evidence Based Education System (EBES)is an innovation in education system designed and planned to overcome these problems. It has been implemented in Sumandeep Vidyapeeth at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the salient features being incorporation of evidences in routine undergraduate lectures and promoting peer group teaching, evidence based journal clubs, evidence based research and hands on searching and appraisal of evidences at bed side during clinical rounds.
EBESCON is one of the components of EBES being followed by the university. Sumandeep Vidyapeeth hosts this international conference every three years with the aim to bring together like minded people to spread the evidence based concept. The first two events were successfully held in 2011 and 2014 which saw presence of stalwarts like Dr Gordon Guyatt, Dr. Kameshwar Prasad and Dr.Regina Kunz. There were more than 400 delegates in each. The preconference workshops were also very popular among the participants and were well appreciated.
In the same series, we are organizing the 3rd EBESCON from 12th to 14th December 2019. Your participation matters. Only with your support we can make the event a grand success.
